LITERACY WEEK PROGRAM

The Rotary District 3140 during the current year has promoted ‘Service -14 Projects’ consisting of various social and community events. The Rotary Club of Satellite City (RCSC) Navi Mumbai on Saturday 20 September, 2014 as part of the focus on Literacy Week conducted a set of intra-school contests at Municipal School Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vidyalaya, Koparkhairane, Navi Mumbai. The school has two mediums of instructions – Hindi and Marathi. The school conducts classes from Pre-primary up to Class VIII. As part of the ‘Literacy Week’ the Rotary Club of Satellite City Navi Mumbai conducted drawing, essay and objective type general knowledge contests. The topics for both drawing and essay writing were announced just prior to the commencement of the events. The General knowledge had variety of questions on science, history, literature and general knowledge, adapted for the class. RCSC provided the drawing and writing sheets for the students and the objective test was multiple choice type. Club President Rotarian Diwakar Singh mentioned that the school was requested to do the initial selection of the drawing and essay tests and the second level evaluation was done by the Rotary team. He also mentioned that prizes will be announced for the first three contestants for each category of the classes and the certificates and prizes would be given later on a special day may be coinciding with the Children’s Day on November 14, 2014. The Headmaster Shri Chandraprakash Ramraj Pal and teaching faculty appreciated the efforts of Rotary and thanked all members. He mentioned that the students were very excited and participated enthusiastically. The Headmaster through his initiative a couple of days earlier had created the tempo which was well visible on the lovely smiling faces of the children. The event was driven by Rtn. D.H. Sanjay who believes along with other Club members that such events will help in developing essential skill sets in young minds and also go a long way to boost confidence of children to face the real world situation and challenges comfortably. Moreover, such events will go a long way in fostering a healthy relationship between the youth of various schools.
